Some teachers at Talmey were noticing the following about their learners:

  • Our learners are stronger readers than we realizedÌýafter getting to know them in first term​

  • Learners need more support in writing, especiallyÌýcreative writing and making connections​

  • Anxiety and lack of confidence surrounding writingÌý(i.e.Ìýnot having ideas, don't know where to start,Ìýworking independently, limited vocabulary)Ìý

So they asked the following inquiry questions:

  • How can we help students be able to use writingÌýstrategies to communicate and be effectiveÌýwriters?Ìý​

  • How can we use UDL and differentiated instructionÌýto promote a sense of belonging and increaseÌýengagement for all learners?

Because,Ìý

  • We want to encourage all our students, especiallyÌýourÌýELL students, to feel independent and confidentÌýin their writing.​

  • We want students to be familiar with a variety ofÌýways to share their ideas and be able to choose aÌýstrategy that aligns with their strengths.
